Docking

Docking guide

A repeatable low-speed approach for berthing, stopping, and completing mooring objectives.

DIRECT ANSWER

Approach slower than feels necessary, remove forward momentum early, align before the final lateral move, and only secure lines when the objective zone is reached.

01

Approach sequence

Large vessels retain momentum and need room to answer.

  • Identify the berth side and final heading
  • Reduce speed before entering the harbor
  • Use small rudder and engine changes
  • Get parallel before moving laterally
  • Stop longitudinal motion
  • Use thrusters or tug support where available
  • Secure the required mooring lines

Tutorial does not advance

In the third tutorial, move close to the pier ladder and connect both required cables. Reaching the berth marker alone may not complete the objective.
